Hey gang! Just a wee heads-up: Glen and I have a 6-page JERSEY GODS back-up in this month's INVINCIBLE (that's ish 55). To celebrate, I'm posting ONE of those pages... right here!
Written by Glorious Glen Brunswick, pencils and inks by Dynamite Dan McDaid and colours (not shown) by Ravishing Rachelle Rosenberg. Do me a favour and go and buy it. And then come here (or here) and let me know what you think!
Bye!

Bought it. LOVED it. Can't wait for Feb.
I thought the story was cute enough without being hacky. A tough balance to strike in a short time, but you pulled it off.
Can't get enough of those crazy designs. I've tried several times to come up with something 'kirbesque', but I just can't think that way.
Well executed visual story-telling without a visual lulling in the less action oriented parts.
Great hand drawn sound effects. Any way you could use a different fount to match your lines better? I don't know just spit balling from the ol' arm chair of spectator expertise, heh heh.
Is Lurella Barock's sister?
Thank you Kyle! I'm still waiting for my copy to arrive, so it's lovely to get some good feedback ahead of time.
Do you mean a different font for the lettering, or the sound effects? Interesting...
Lurella and Barock have... *history*. But they're not related!
Sorry, I meant for the lettering, the sound effects were great. I thought same thing about Paulos Rivera's issue of Spiderman last week (he hand drew the sound effects too). The standard lettering font and outlines around the balloons themselves didn't sync with the art as well as they could have.
For instance, the lines around your panels are big and bold, matching the bold line-work inside the panels, but then you have these teeny thin lines around the word-balloons and lettering font that just doesn't carry the intensity that the images do.
I've heard of some web comic artists scanning in their own hand drawn alphabet, and turning that into a font. I don't know.
I don't mean to make a big deal about it. Honestly, I didn't notice it the first time through, but I thought I'd give if I was going to give you some feedback, I'd really look at things. It doesn't hurt the first read at all, but it may stand up better if the balloons' line-weight and fonts were tweaked. You may not have a big say in it, or care enough to change it, but it's the only thing that I could pick out that I thought could be done better.
Perhaps that and the color pallet was a bit warm. The Forth World issues I have seem to have a bit cooler tones of the same colors that were used you Jersey Gods. Am
I being a jerk by saying this? I really did love the pages, and thought the other aspects of the coloring, lettering, and everything else were phenomenal.
I always worry about leaving any feedback other than “this is great” a bit of a risky venture as well - you don’t know how sensitive the artiste is going to be. But honestly, I’m mostly ego-free, and this is excellent, honest, constructive criticism - just the sort of thing we’re after. I’m not sure how much of a say I have with things like the lettering, but I broadly feel that the font works very well. The balloon outline thickness might be something work looking at - though it’s worth pointing out that my panel borders get a lot thinner as we go along. I haven’t seen the printed article yet so I can’t call it one way or the other, but I’m happy enough if the colours are quite “warm”: I certainly envisaged this happening on a hazy summer's day. Some of Rachelle’s colours in the final book run a lot cooler - particularly when we’re in space.
Anyway, thanks again for the feedback Kyle - if we can get a small army of people who care as much as you do, then this book is going to be a hit.
Oh, and Paulo Rivera? WOW.
I do my best to spread those preview pages around. If there's any justice in the world, it'll be a hit.
I cannot wait to hold this book in my hands. What I have seen on various websites looks stunning. Seriously cannot wait to read this!
ullo, dan. you've got a great style, packed with maximum punch and zap, really looking forward to the series.
